Seriously?!

Yesterday I went shopping for myself. This is a big deal because I didn't go to DI or Walmart...I went to an actual store. I spent some time browsing until I found a couple of outfits I REALLY liked. I was feeling pretty good about myself until I got to the counter to checkout. That is when the following conversation took place:

Salesgirl: Do you want a gift receipt with your purchase today?
Me: Um.....No thank you.

Salesgirl: Ok, if the person you are buying this for doesn't like it or if the clothing doesn't fit she can bring it back.
Me: Um.....ok.

Salesgirl: Oh, you aren't buying this for you are you?
Me: Well, yeah.

Salesgirl: Well then, this is exciting for you....a whole new style.
Me: (utter shock and silence) Ok.

Honestly what do you say to something like that? I was dressed in one of my work outfits and thought I looked decent. I didn't think the new outfits were that different from what I had on. Oh my, a whole new style. I am not sure I am ready for such a drastic change. Too bad for her, I love the clothes and look great.

A Night At The Museum

For family night last night we went to the Idaho Falls Museum to see the Egyptian exhibit "World of the Pharoahs." It was fantastic!! We were invited to go with my in-laws and had a great time. I was impressed that I actually knew what they were talking about in most of the exhibit information. I am grateful for movies like "The Mummy" and "The Mummy Returns" which gave me much of my background.

All kidding aside, I really did enjoy seeing some of the artifacts they had discovered and reading about the lives and practices of ancient Egyptians. As always, the Museum of Idaho did a fantastic job displaying the exhibit and had really fun play rooms for the kids to enjoy as well.

We are very lucky to live close enough to take advantage of really amazing exhibits. Previously we have also been able to see the exhibit "A Dinosaur Named Sue." I am pretty excited to see what they will bring next.

My Bad

Sorry to Mac for the last post. I made a most horrific error!! He graduated from Utah State University in Logan. Yeah, I know I am a dork, no comment needed on the matter.

Mac Is Graduating

This coming weekend my brother-in-law, Mac, is graduating with his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah. We are really proud of him. I told him I was going to do a blog about him and he HATES the idea so that gave me even more reason to do one. hehehehe....sorry Mac (but not really)!

Sharman is a huge advocate of obtaining education so when we received Mac's graduation announcement there was no question of whether or not we would go. He is really proud of Mac and wants to make sure that Mac knows how important this is to him. Although Mac did this for himself and his family, Sharman is as proud as a parent.

While in school earning his degree (Mac), Laurie joined him and is working on her degree also. I cannot imagine the amount of sacrifice and work it takes for both of them to attend school with two small children. When we were at the University of Idaho we both attended school but we did not have children at the time. We are extremely proud of them and the work they are doing. Mac has had several job interviews and we are hoping that they will keep him and his family will end up staying close to the rest of us. We would sure be lonely without them and the cute kiddos around.

Congratulations Mac!! You make us proud!

Dads Wisdom

You have to love the wisdom of parents. My dad has some pretty memorable quotes that you probably heard in your home. The worst part is I now hear them in my home as a parent quoting them to my children. Enjoy:

1. My dad taught me: TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE .
'If you're going to kill each other, do it outside. Mom just finished cleaning.'

2. My dad taught me: RELIGION.
'You better pray that will come out of the carpet.'

3. My dad taught me: TIME TRAVEL.
'If you don't straighten up, I'm going to knock you into the middle of next week!'

4. My dad taught me: LOGIC.
'Because I said so, that's why.'

5. My dad taught me: MORE LOGIC.
'If you fall out of that swing and break your neck, you're not going to the store with me.'

6. My dad taught me: FORESIGHT.
'Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you're in an accident.'

7. My dad taught me: IRONY.
'Keep crying, and I'll give you something to cry about.'

8. My dad taught me about the science of OSMOSIS.
'Shut your mouth and eat your supper.'

9. My dad taught me: CONTORTIONISM.
'Will you look at that dirt on the back of your neck!'

10. My dad taught me about STAMINA.
'You'll sit there until all that spinach is gone.'

11. My dad taught me: WEATHER.
'This room looks as if a tornado went through it.'

12. My dad taught me: HYPOCRISY.
'If I told you once, I've told you a million times. Don't exaggerate!'

13. My dad taught me: THE CIRCLE OF LIFE.
'I helped bring you into this world, and I can take you out.'

14. My dad taught me about BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION.
'Stop acting like your brother!'

15. My dad taught me: ENVY.
'There are millions of less fortunate children in this world who don't have wonderful parents like you do.'

16. My dad taught me about ANTICIPATION.
'Just wait until we get home.'

17. My dad taught me: RECEIVING.
'You are going to get it when you get home!'

18. My dad taught me: MEDICAL SCIENCE.
'If you don't stop crossing your eyes, they are going to freeze that way.'

19. My dad taught me: ESP.
'Put your sweater on; don't you think I know when you are cold?'

20. My dad taught me: HUMOR.
'When that lawn mower cuts off your toes, don't come running to me.'

21. My dad taught me: HOW TO BECOME AN ADULT.
'If you don't eat your vegetables, you'll never grow up.'

22. My dad taught me: GENETICS.
'I swear you're just like your mother.'

23. My dad taught me about my ROOTS.
'Shut that door behind you. Do you think you were born in a barn?'

24. My dad taught me: WISDOM.
'When you get to be my age, you'll understand.'

25. And my favorite: My dad taught me about JUSTICE.
'One day you'll have kids, and I hope they turn out just like you!'

And we got them. Thanks dad!!

You Are My Friend

My Father-in-law just sent me a funny email and I had to laugh because I really think this way. This is how you know I really am your friend...

1. When you are sad -- I will jump on the person who made you sad like a spider monkey jacked up on mountain dew.

2. When you are blue -- I will try to dislodge whatever is choking you.

3. When you smile -- I will know you are plotting something that I must be involved in.

4. When you are scared -- I will mock you about it every chance I get.

5. When you are worried -- I will tell you horrible stories about how much worse it could be until you quit whining.

6. When you are confused -- I will use little words.

7. When you are sick -- Stay away from me until you are well again. I don't want whatever you have.

8. When you fall -- I will point and laugh at your clumsy butt.

9. This is my oath.... I pledge it to the end. 'Why?' you may ask; 'because you are my friend.'

Meggers

My niece Meg has made me smile several times today so I thought I would share. She began in church as she would look over at me and wave and then smile. Then she would turn away and then back again and wave and smile. This went on for about 10 to 15 minutes and really brought a smile to my face and it warmed my heart.

This evening as we are at Grandma and Grandpa Jensen's reading scriptures as a family she is kneeling on top of the rocking footstool and just grinning from ear to ear as she watches her sister and cousin Sydney rolling a toy back and forth. With drool dripping down her mouth and doing her best to balance, I couldn't help but smile.

I sure love you Meggers!!
